Two months ago we packed everything we could fit in the back of the car and headed south to sell pest control for the summer.

Since it was such a long trip, we let the kids take turns behind the wheel so Jeff and I could get
some rest...

(just kidding)

We arrived in Texas 2 days later and settled in to our new little apartment in Austin.

The pool is our favorite part of the complex. We are without a car and there isn't much to do within walking distance. So, we spend our days at the pool. The kids love to swim!

We have tried quite a few BBQ places since we've been here and, by far, my favorite is a place called "Rudy's" (even better than "Salt Lick" in my opinion). It is a little place on the side of a Shell gas station, claiming to be "The Worst BBQ in Texas" that serves AMAZING meat on sheets of wax paper. The "Extra Moist Brisket" is to die for, but my favorite thing on the menu is the "Spicy Chopped". I am not much of a meat fan, but my chances of ever becoming a vegetarian were shot the day I discovered this item. It is sold by the half pound and a little goes a long way (served with sliced white bread, I eat it sandwich-style with coleslaw piled on top). Whenever we order I end up eating this for breakfast lunch and dinner until it's gone. YUM!

We love it here. Jeff is doing well in sales. It's not an easy job, but we have been so blessed. Our plan is to stay until October with this job and stay if another offer comes up. We shall see. For now we are enjoying the heat, humidity, insane amounts of bugs, lush green landscapes, and the southern hospitality. Texas is a beautiful place. It feels like home. We're hoping to get the chance to call it home for a little while longer (at least for the winter).

I can't believe Darren will be 4 months old next week. So many people try to guess his age and are literally in disbelief when we correct them down to a much younger age. Everyone thinks he's 6-9 months old. He is in the 85 percentile for his height and weight. BIG BOY!

Say hello to my grumpy little man. Seeing a smile on these chubby cheeks is a rare occasion.. I'm learning to love all the frowns and scowls rather than the coos and giggles of most babies at this age. Hopefully he'll grow out of it (Colic is most likely playing a huge part in this kids mood) but for now.. enjoy his serious little stare.

I promise I change my kids clothes from time to time :) Branden just happens to be wearing the same shirt he was wearing in the hospital pictures.. (if you didn't notice.. I'm glad I pointed it out for you!)
And Darren's screaming definitely does not cause any discouragement to Branden lovin' on him. He's oblivious.
I like it that way.

Lately..

WOW! I can't believe its been 2 months since our little (HA!) Darren was born. Time is seriously flyin' by. We've been staying busy doing as much together as a family as we can squeeze in. Campfires in the backyard are becoming a regular thing. Branden loves sitting outside with his daddy making S'mores or roasting hot dogs.

Such good buddies. I'm a lucky, lucky gal!

Home from the Hospital.

Darren had to be on the Bilibed for 2 weeks for his jaundice. We always joked about it being his own personal tanning bed. Aren't his goggles cute?

I have tried to take his pictures several times and somehow he always knows the camera is there and he cries the entire time. The second I stop he falls asleep, and as soon as I pick the camera up again.. "Waaaaaah!" ugh. So depressing! So far, this is the best I've been able to do. I'm not giving up yet...

Birth day.

We arrived at the hospital at 7:30 a.m. to start the Pitocin. I was still only dilated to 1cm and about 80% effaced. The nurses came in every half hour to raise the level of Pitocin in my IV.

I was having some pretty big contractions by 11 a.m. but nothing painful.

My mom brought Branden over to say hi and wish me luck.

Jeff kept me company throughout the day. We made up our own card game, watched a movie, and started a book together.

... he fell asleep... no fair!

I could only drink water and eat crackers. The nurses finally let me eat a popsicle and some jello because my mom brought Jeff a sandwich from Subway and it smelled sooooo good I couldn't stand it.

Around 1 p.m. I had only dilated to a 3! :( My Pitocin was at a 12 and I was starting to shake really bad. My hands and feet went ice cold and sweaty and I started feeling really sick. My mom was positive I was dilated to a 7 and in transition. So around 4 p.m. my doctor came in to check me and I was still at a 3. I was so discouraged!!! Since I wasn't making any progress he decided to break my water to see if that would speed things up.

Oh boy, did it ever!!!

Not even 5 minutes later I started having really painful contractions and could feel a lot of pressure on my pelvis. I only made it through an hour of this before I started really considering getting the epidural. My epidural with Branden was NOT a good experience so I was literally terrified of getting one this time around. I wanted to wait until I was absolutely desperate to get one so I wouldn't mind the possibility of it being a bad experience. I'm glad, because it was even worse than the last time! Around 6 p.m. the Medicine Man came to my room to give me the epidural. I was extremely nervous but in so much pain I really didn't care anymore... until he started, of course. My contractions were so strong and so close together I didn't have time to catch my breath. I was shaking so uncontrollably that it was almost impossible to sit still like you're supposed to which made everything even more painful. I was so overwhelmed with everything that I started bawling. I seriously could not get a grip. I was a total mess!! I'm glad no one was in the room this time to take pictures!!! ha.

After the medicine kicked in I was able to relax a little bit. I was still feeling like I couldn't breathe and was shaking, but without the accompanying pain I felt better.

By 9 p.m. it was time to push. 45 minutes later my epidural wore off on one side. By the time the Medicine Man came in to up my dose it was too late. I was in so much pain and the pressure was so great all I could think about was getting the baby OUT! So, I huffed and I puffed and I pushed out a HUGE head along with a 7 lb 14.9 oz body!!! I tore on the side my epidural wore off (of course!) but thanks to all the adrenaline in my body I hardly felt it. Thankfully, the epidural kicked back in just in time for stitches :) yeah!

(The nurses all thought I was crazy because I was seriously laughing while the Dr stitched me up. I was so elated to be done with pregnancy that I didn't even care about anything else going on (I'll spare you the details). I was giddy and grateful and wanted to shout "Hooray" as loud as I possibly could.)

I lost a lot of blood (Jeff described it as a "fountain".. gross!) and had to be put on some medicine to stop the bleeding, but no transfusions necessary. I did have to stay on the Pitocin for a while to help birth the placenta (gag, sorry! TMI) and help stop the bleeding, but by morning it was over and all the tubes and needles and beeping machines were removed from me and I was able to sleep!

Branden came to meet his little brother around 9 a.m. I have never seen a happier little boy in all my life. If nothing else made the experience worth it, his smile definitely did.

Welcome, Baby!

I have about 200 pics to go through before I do a real post, but I just wanted to get something up for those of you patiently awaiting pictures :)

Branden is an amazing big brother. We are so proud of him! He is so gentle and eager to help. He never stops smiling when "Baby Darren" is near him. We are so excited to have these cute little boys in our family.

Baby's stats:
Born- 9:59 p.m.
Weight- 7lbs 14oz
Length- 20inches (we thought they said 22, but his chart listed 20)

We named him Darren Jefferson on the birth certificate, but are considering a few other options. We really like James for a middle name as well.

I'll do a longer post with the birth story and more pics some time this next week. Right now I need to focus on eating sleeping and lovin' my new guy!

Baby Time!

Hi! Sorry i've been a terrible blogger lately. We've been back and forth between Heber and Orem & life has been CRAZY!

Just a quick update while I have a few minutes to spare (ya right, like I have no laundry, unpacking, cleaning, or organizing to do at this very moment).

I had my 39 wk check up today and my blood pressure is high along with protein in my urine. SO, my prayers are being answered and I am being induced tomorrow morning at 7:30. I am a little nervous about this because I am not dilated any more than I was last week, but I am 90% effaced (last week I was 70%). I didn't respond very well to the Pitocin with Branden, so I'm REALLY hoping this time around I will have a much better and quicker response!!!

My doctor is estimating the baby will be about 7.5 lbs. I hope he has a Czirban head instead of the Glazier one (no offense Glazier's.. just not excited to push another one of those out.. haha).

Anyway, I have lots to do to get ready. We still are not unpacked from the move and I'm not entirely sure where everything baby-related is. So, I'm going to spend the remainder of the day sorting thru things and then getting to bed EARLY!!

Branden is really loving the warm weather. The minute he wakes up in the morning he asks to go outside. He goes through the same routine every day.

1. Plays in the dirt.
2. Asks for the keys to my car so he can unlock it and pretend to drive.
3. Go for a walk around the block (with Mom, of course).
4. Snacks on milk & cookies (Cookies & "No") or fruit snacks ("Nu-na's").
5. Nap time.
6. Repeat all of the above.

"I Can't Hear You"

Branden has had 2 major ear infections for the past 2 weeks. He's seen the doctor twice and is on his second round of antibiotics. I am running out of creativity and patience! He will NOT take his medicine. We have tried juice, food, chocolate milk, using a dropper and pretending its Tylenol (which he LOVES)... and AH! its driving me nuts because we can only use each method once before he figures it out and refuses to do it again. We have wasted so many doses and I'm afraid he's not getting as much as he needs to kill the infection.

Recently, he has been showing signs of defiance.. not in a rude way (its hilarious, actually) but it still makes me sad that we don't all stay sweet and obedient forever! I thought I'd get a good 5 years out of him so its depressing to think it lasted less than 2 years :(

Example #1: If I tell Branden its time to change his diaper, he runs in the other direction. This is probably the most typical way kids defy you at a young age.
No biggie.

#2: When I say its time to take a bath or get his PJs on, he immediately lays down, closes his eyes and says "Ashoo, ashoo" like he's sleeping. Zzzzzzz....
Brilliant!

but the most shocking of all is the most recent example...

#3: Last night I was beyond my level of patience so Jeff took over and tried to have a serious talk with Branden about the importance of taking his medicine. Branden slapped his hands over his ears, squeezed his eyes shut and started singing!!!!!

WHERE THE HECK DID HE LEARN THAT?!?!?

I am nervous for our future.

Any ideas?
How do I get him to take his medicine without loading it with sugar, or so he doesn't throw it up?
What do you do when your kids want to be independent and/or defiant?
How do you teach them a behavior is wrong when you are trying your hardest not to laugh or think about beating them (not really) because you are in complete shock that this little body and brain is WAY too smart for anyone's good???

This might be Branden's new favorite holiday! He had 3 egg hunts and
loved every minute of them. I think he could do one every day :)
He didn't even care what was inside... he just enjoyed finding the "blue ones".

His cousin Annalee moved in and they have become best friends.
They follow each other everywhere and get into all kinds of
mischief together. Her name is the first thing he says every morning
and can't wait to come downstairs to see if she's awake.

Cake Pops!

I spent the day with my sister testing out this new idea I saw on my absolute
favorite website in the world!!!

They were created by Bakerella, who is amazing in the kitchen. She was even
featured on the Martha Stewart Show.

Anyway, I'm no Martha, Bakerella, and definitely no Pioneer Woman...
but I still had fun making them and taking the pictures.

We made a MESS! and suffered from major heartburn from all the chocolate,
but it was worth it.

I used Devil's Food Cake Mix, Vanilla Frosting, Dark & White Chocolate for melting,
Mini M&M's, and basic rainbow color sprinkles for decorating.

I plan on perfecting these little buggers in the near future :)

This little munchkin snuck up all on his own when I wasn't looking and
helped himself to all the goodies...

My sisters and one of their friends were the brave souls who tested them first...

they're still alive, so that's success enough for me :)

I liked this version best. I put the cake part in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes
then dipped only the top part in chocolate. It wasn't quite so overwhelmingly sweet
and I felt a little better about not getting gestational diabetes... :)

No Needles Necessary.

I am jumping for joy right now (in a figurative way due to limited movement)! I got a call from the doctor yesterday afternoon saying that my ultrasound was normal. This means my clots are on the surface only, or what they like to call superficial clots, meaning they are in the veins that do not connect to any main arteries. So, the baby and I are safe and the clots will resolve themselves over time.
I feel so blessed and am so relieved to have the peace of mind that this will not be a serious complication in my pregnancy!
Thank you to all of you who said a prayer, or kept me in your thoughts. I really appreciate the concern and the love I have felt from all of you.
I will continue to keep you updated in the future.

Pregnancy Update..

I am now 16 weeks along. Some of you already know I've been having some weird things happening with my left leg. I thought I tore my Achilles Tendon about a month ago but didn't think it was bad enough to see a doctor. I kept ice on it and elevated it when possible, but it continued to get worse each day. I also started noticing bumps on my calf the size of a dime to a quarter that were hard and red and were painful like bruises. At first I thought they were bug bites of some sort, but they didn't itch. They seemed to multiply each day and I started noticing them hurting more when my Achilles hurt. That seemed really odd.

I was scheduled for a maternity appointment Feb 4th so I was trying to wait until then to ask the doctor about it, but a few nights ago the pain was unbearable and to the point I could not rest my leg comfortably to sleep. I was up all night painfully tossing and turning and trying not to go crazy. I got up the next morning and noticed the skin on my leg felt very tight and almost swollen, but couldn't really see any swelling. I did some research on the internet and found some things that really scared me so I decided to see the doctor this morning. It only took one look from my doctor to tell me I had blood clots. A LOT of them!!! (12 this morning, now up to 14 and counting) About an hour later he sent me over for an ultrasound (where we got to sneak a peek at our super cute teeny tiny healthy baby _____! yeah, so exciting!) to check and see the severity and depth of the clots. If they are surface clots, I will be ok just taking some aspirin and keeping heat on it. If they are deep clots, then I will have to be put on a blood thinner that can only be injected... EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF MY PREGNANCY!! :(

I absolutely hate needles and really can't see myself being able to inject MYSELF twice a day. SO, please keep your toes and fingers crossed that these clots are only on the surface and will be easily managed with mild medicine (taken orally).

We will find out the results some time tomorrow. I will keep you posted!

Thanksgiving Point Farm.

This is taking FOREVER to post so I apologize for the pictures being out of order. I usually like to have things organized, but today everything uploaded in backwards order and in attempts to put them in forward motion, I have made a big huge mess of it all! and now I am frustrated! so, assuming that I care more about this than you do, I am leaving it the way it is... for now.

A huge thanks goes out to my sister-in-law, Sherry, for having her camera on her and taking all these fun photos. You'd think I'd lug my camera gear around constantly, but honestly, I have been feeling overwhelmed by the amount of images and editing/post-processing I've been doing and refuse to add another image to the crowd until I get the ones I have completed.

Anyway, a few months ago, Sherry invited us to the Thanksgiving Point Farm. It was a first time for us, and I was really surprised at how well Branden responded to all the animals. He was very brave.. especially when it came to feeding the goats. Those things even freaked ME out... but he was right up there with the rest of us sticking his hand-full-of-corn in the cage. So cute! Just recently he has learned all of the animal names and sounds so I am really looking forward to warmer weather and a second trip back to the farm.

My family started out the holidays with a battle. Traditionally called a "sock fight" (gathering up all the socks in the house and rolling them up into tight balls), but recently revised to a little "battle of the sexes" with a huge box of light-weight mini soccer, football, and baseballs. We create shields by turning over tables, couches, etc. and divide the teams boys vs. girls. The rest is pretty self explanatory... its a war... and its FUN!

This year, as usual, the girls won :D Here is our victory snapshot.

We spent Christmas Eve at the Glaziers where we enjoyed a surprise visit from Jeff's sister and brother-in-law and their family from St. George.
We had fun painting Ornaments and making Reindeer out of Nutter Butter cookies.

Branden was content just eating the ingredients instead of waiting to see the outcome...

There were lots of presents to be opened. We played the annual "Guess Who This Belongs To" and had a great time.

Branden's favorite gift... A TELEPHONE! "Hewwo?"

not so sure about sharing it with his older cousins though...

and once again, a nice big finish with a fondue dessert by Dove.

Back at the Czirbans on Christmas morning, Branden got a cell phone from Grandma. He wasn't sure if he liked the new one better than the REAL one...

I am in total shock we actually got a picture taken this year. Things have been crazy and its been FREEZING here in Heber. Who wants to go outside and actually smile about getting frostbite??? But, we did it! Not for more than 5 minutes, but we did it. :D
This year has been a good one. Jeff has been able to stay busy with work while many others were not as fortunate and lost their jobs (even within his company). We are grateful for Magleby Companies and the many wonderful people we've been able to become friends with while working there.
I am loving my time at home with Branden. Sometimes he is smarter than I am and that's a little scary, but he keeps me on my toes and laughing all the time. I am constantly learning from him and fascinated by how much he learns and grows by watching us (which is also a little scary). He says new words every day, and I am just waiting to wake up one day to him forming complete sentences. AGH! I just know that day is coming too soon. I want him to say young and sweet and innocent forever!!! I don't want him to ever grow up. My favorite thing right now is to see how much he really understands things. I haven't talked much about the baby in my belly for awhile now, but the other day I was lying in bed and he looked down at my tummy and said "Baby!" with a huge smile on his face. I don't know how much of the concept of being pregnant he actually gets, but he definitely knows what a baby is and that I have one inside of me. So, I'd say he gets it :D
As far as other things in life go, we are kind of in limbo with the property in Lehi. The house plans are done, we just need to get them to an architecht so we can start the Cost Breakdown so we can get a Construction Loan. I think we are just a little nervous about the economy and starting such a big project not knowing where we need to be financially for whatever may come in the future. We have to keep reminding ourselves to keep moving forward and see where each step takes us.
We're so blessed to have you as friends, family, and/or neighbors. We love you all and wish you well in the coming year.

Look who grew up quite a bit while we were gone... We were so amazed to find our not-even-2-year old figuring out ways around his small size. Last night while at the dinner table he was getting really fussy and looking at the blinds so I got him out of his chair and turned him around to play with them. He was very excited to explore something new, but rather frustrated that he could not reach the second string once he pulled the first one down. So, he looked around for a minute and I could totally see those little wheels in his head working overtime... Sure enough he figured out a way to end his frustration, and boy! was he proud of himself! :)

He also LOVES light switches! He could spend hours turning them on and off. Well, since no one else in the house is as thrilled about them as he is nor do they want to hold him up there for hours on end... he figured out a way to do it himself. You can see the wheels working again in these pictures.

Wow. He really just blows me away. It's actually pretty scary to see him out-think me sometimes... He sure keeps us laughing!

Anniversary Number Four.

Jeff and I just got back from celebrating our 4-year anniversary at the Silver King Hotel in Park City. It was a huge surprise for me and I couldn't have been more thrilled. We spent the time shopping, eating, sight seeing, swimming, and reminiscing about fun times. As many of you know, we are expecting baby #2 in July, so this was a fun time for us to discuss all the fun memories we've made and express our gratitude for all the many things we've been blessed with in the 5 years we've been together. We decided to start a tradition by writing down all the GOOD things that happened during that year, and read the things we wrote the previous year. That way when we celebrate each anniversary we can remember the blessings, the things that made us laugh, and in doing so appreciate each other and our friendship more and more each year. I think it will be a really rewarding tradition. This year we laughed our heads off thinking of some of our earliest memories.
My favorite from our first year of marriage- W.W.F Smack down night. I was lying in bed trying to sleep and he was not tired yet, so to get attention he kept jumping on me in different wrestling positions. Each time he jumped higher and each time I laughed a little harder. By the end, he managed to BREAK our bed!!! I was laughing so hard I couldn't possibly be mad. It was pretty funny.
Jeff's favorite from when we were dating- I came over to his house to visit and we decided to go out on the deck in the backyard. Jeff looked up at the sky and said, "Aw man, there are no stars out tonight." I looked up to see a blank, dark sky and with total shock and bewilderment said, "Where did they all go?" To which Jeff responded, "Megan, It's cloudy!!" I, of course, felt like a total idiot and to this day he laughs just as hard as he did that night.
So anyway, I hope our list continues to grow with fun things like this. I had a great time reminiscing and can honestly say that this was our best anniversary yet. The only hard part was being away from Branden for 3 days. When we got home we stopped by the church to pick him up and he wouldn't even look at me. When my sister gave him to me he even let out a little whimper like he didn't want me to hold him. It wasn't until half way home that he started to warm up a little and put his head on my shoulder (I know, bad parenting, he was in my lap and not his car seat). I feel really bad because he got sick and was probably thinking, "Where the heck are my parents???" But he has the cutest raspy voice right now. I love it.
Oh, and THANK YOU THANK YOU to all the family who contributed to keeping this a secret for Jeff and watching Branden for us while we were away. We love you so much and appreciate all you do.

He also LOVES to play with water. My mom was watering the backyard and he was just dying to go out and play with the hose. He ran back and forth underneath the stream until he was sopping wet.

Last night we went to my good friend, Julie's, for a pumpkin carving party. It is always fun to see him interact with other kids. He's a little shy at first, but by the end of the night, he's usually right in the middle of it all.

These glasses were hilarious. I was so surprised he kept them on long enough to take a picture. He actually seemed to be enjoying them. Sorry, bud! They're not really you! :)

I only carved the eyes and mouth before my hand got a killer cramp. Thanks to my hubby's strong construction hands for finishing the job!

Aren't these cute? Well, maybe that's the wrong word for them, but I thought it was a pretty fun idea.

My little Scarecrow! He was in such a funny mood when we got home, thanks to all the sugar. I love that he will ham it up for the camera.

This morning, we went to Ms. Kristi's Music Class, where we sang and danced and played with lots of other kids. Branden had the cutest costume of them all. EVERYONE asked if I made it. The answer: Heck no! My friend did. :) I'm not that creative. Thanks, Julie, for letting us borrow it!

This is my dad when he was Branden's age. When my grandma showed me this photograph, I could have sworn it was a prank. It looks like someone took a picture of Branden and photoshop-ed him in with the family.

"Look, Mom, its Me!"

Branden can always recognize himself when he sees a picture or a mirror. He saw this and said "baby" which is what he always says when he sees himself :) too cute!
